- We have hundreds of bright scientists at research centres across the province engaged in nanotechnology - many of them involved in it before it was even identified as a science.
- We're attracting top-notch researchers from around the world, drawn by our reputation for excellent science, a collaborative and intellectually challenging research environment and generous funding.
Leading companies like General Electric, Sony, 3M and IBM are beating a path to the door of the Centre for Advanced Nanotechnology. That's because the centre is renowned for its nanotechnology R&D. Led by Professor Harry Ruda, an internationally recognized pioneer in the field, the centre consists of 17 principal investigators, including a Nobel laureate and two Canada Research Chairs, who are recognized world-class multidisciplinary researchers/collaborators.
Their research targets the development of new generations of nanoelectronic and nanophotonic materials, structures and devices, which offer huge potential for information technology, advanced manufacturing and advanced materials and processes. Professor Ruda says, "Our researchers are the best and brightest materials people from chemistry, physics, electrical engineering and materials science and that's central to realizing the structures and devices that are required."
