One example of our expertise in financial services took place in November 2011 when the province hosted the Toronto Financial Services Day in New York. For the event, high-level leaders of Toronto, Ontario's financial services industry visited New York to introduce the Wall Street community to Toronto as a leading global financial services centre.

This special event attracted over 270 financial sector and government leaders from some of North America's most renowned financial institutions. It gave them an opportunity to explore how successful and growing partnerships between financial services companies in the United States and Canada have strengthened businesses on both sides of the border and around the world.

• In recent years, publications and organizations as diverse as Forbes and the U.K.-based Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) have ranked Toronto among the world’s top ten international financial centres.

• Ontario’s NAFTA-accessible location, competitive business costs, and recognized stability and capacity for growth in diverse industries such as manufacturing, IT, life sciences, financial and professional services, should assure international investors that Ontario is a great place to do business.

• Site Selection magazine ranked Ontario as Canada's most competitive province in its annual review of best places for investment and business development.

• In 2010 Ontario was ranked the top North American jurisdiction for FDI projects relative to population with 10 projects per million of population.

• In September 2011, the World Economic Forum ranked Canada’s banking system as the soundest in the world for the fourth year in a row.

• In early 2011, international ratings agency Fitch forecasted that Canada’s Big Six banks will remain, like the country itself, stable, with earnings predicted to remain sound and credit costs manageable.
