Ontario is the best location for investment in Canada, according to Site Selection magazine's annual “Best to Invest” rankings

The Canadian Competitiveness award recognizes Canada's regional and municipal economic performance by number of corporate facility investments. Site Selection magazine is an internationally circulated business publication covering corporate real estate and economic development.

Ontario leads in major corporate facility investment

With 93 investment projects, the province topped last year's leader, Quebec, by 25. Ontario also created the most jobs associated with investment, while coming second in terms of incoming investments related to acquiring or upgrading physical assets such as property, industrial buildings and equipment.

Ontario's metro areas dominate in project activity

According to Site Selection magazine, Ontario metro areas were home to twice as much project activity than its closest rival. In fact, Ontario cities accounted for half of the top 10 metro-area and regional economic development groups, as well as eight of the top 20 locations identified.

Ontario is a location of choice for innovative global companies

Ontario's competitive business environment, superior talent and unparalleled quality of life is attracting investment from global companies.

  • JLABS @ Toronto: Ontario was selected as the home of Johnson & Johnson Innovation's first JLABS incubator outside the United States. The 40,000 sq. ft. facility, located within MaRS Discovery District, will expand the resources and networks available to the life sciences community in the region.

"Toronto is home to a vibrant and prolific healthcare and life sciences community led by academic hospitals, world-class research institutions, top scientists, and a strong start-up ecosystem. For these reasons, Toronto is a natural choice for our first international expansion of JLABS."

– Melinda Richter, Head of JLABS

  • Chrysler and GM: Major automakers have doubled down on their commitment to make Ontario an important part of their innovation strategy. As GM expands its presence in Oshawa, Chrysler remains firmly planted in Windsor.

"We are making this investment because we see an opportunity to take advantage of a wealth of talent in mobile technologies, software and advanced automotive engineering available in Canada's leading universities and other partner organizations."

– Stephen Carlisle, President, GM Canada
