A global survey of more than 14,000 respondents from 195 countries and overseas territories ranked Canada a top 10 destination based upon positive opinions of education, work and leisure opportunities. Expat Insider is a survey performed by InterNations, a social network that brings together expats from cities around the world to share ideas, advice and experiences, and boasts of 1.6 million members across over 390 local communities. The survey asked working adults, the unemployed and retirees living abroad to rate their opinions of quality of life. Respondents ranked countries based upon ease of settling in, personal finance and cost of living, quality of family life and general environmental factors such as political stability, economy and climate.

Canada will make you feel welcome

Canada ranked highly in the "feeling welcome" subcategory of the "ease of settling in index," ranking eighth of 64 countries included in the results. Owing much to the diversity of urban centres in Ontario, and in particular the culturally diverse Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, 72% of respondents claim that settling down in Canada is generally easy. In fact, close to one-third of expats living in Canada have settled comfortably enough to have acquired citizenship, compared with only 10% of respondents worldwide.

Canada is a desirable place to work

Canada placed 13th in the survey's "working abroad index," which measures satisfaction with earnings, job security and job prospects, with two-thirds rating Canada as a desirable place to work. Canada is recognized as the best place in the world for youth talent and one of the best places in the world for entrepreneurs.

Canada is a great place to raise a family

From large cities like Toronto, Mississauga and Ottawa, to mid-sized and smaller cities such as Waterloo, Cambridge and Brantford, there is no shortage of great places to live, work and raise a family. Expat Insider found that 79% of respondents appreciate the options for their children's education, 68% confirmed that the options are numerous and easy to access, while 69% approve of the quality of education. Overall, 76% of expats are satisfied with their family life in Canada and not a single parent surveyed rated their children's general well-being or their children's health and safety negatively. As a result, Canada ranked seventh in the "family well-being" subcategory.

Canada has a stable economy and political environment

Canada is one of the world's most peaceful countries and is home to one of the world's soundest banking systems, according to the World Economic Forum. Not surprisingly, Canada ranked exceptionally high in stability and political environment. Major cities in Canada rank among the safest, most-livable cities in the world, while the country as a whole is praised for being the second best place in the world for business and the most tax competitive among G7 countries.
